The Wheel and Axle
Picture
The wheel and axle is another tool you might be very familiar with, agent.  With this simple tool, a wheel is attached to a rod, a shaft or an axle that can be turned.  Usually the rod is grooved or threaded to control the gear or wheel.  The wheel and axle can be used to move an object over a distance or raise and lower a load.  It is also very handy for a quick 'get away' such as in an elevator shaft!

Top Secret Examples
Picture
Although this doesn't look like a wheel and axle, it is an example of the different forms that an agent might find this tool disguised as.  Check out MIKids for more examples.
You can also watch this special video to see ways you could use this simple tool.

Create your own
Before you attempt your next challenge, you will need to test yourself to be sure that you not only an spot a wheel and axle combination, you can make one of your own.  When you are satisfied that you can demonstrate your own wheel and axle, either take a picture, a video, or sketch a scientific diagram of it.  Don't forget to describe it and it's parts, and how you could use it.
Reflect...
Time to do a quick reflection on wheels and axles secret agent in-training.  What materials could you use to make your wheel and axle?  How could you use it in the field or when on a case?  Write your thoughts in your Simple Machines notebook.  You will post to the 'Secret Agent blog' once you have completed the investigation of Pulleys.
