WHAT ARE SCISSORS?
Picture
A pair of scissors uses a combined mechanism known as a compound machine. Compound machines are comprised of two or more simple machines in an effort to more efficiently exert force, like the cutting of an object.

The blades of the scissors are a pair of wedges in a cross shape which pivot around a fulcrum. The attached handles are levers.

When force is applied to the handles, it causes the bladed wedges to come together to cut an object from both sides.

AUDIO PODCAST SCISSORS ACTIVITY:

Scissors can be used for many cutting jobs and functions to cut some very tough stuff. The most common use of scissors is to cut hair and paper.

Using your iPad and the app Garage Band, all agents are to prepare a 45 second recording discussing what jobs they can do using a pair of scissors.

As an added bonus, using the list of jingles and/or sound effects included in the app and prepare a 10 second intro and outtro. An example is found below for you to test out.

PADLET WALL OF KNOWLEDGE ON SCISSORS:
Can you think of any other uses for scissors? If so please add them to our secret agent wall of knowledge. To do so you will have to follow these steps:

STEP 1: Obtain the secret password (hint: unscramble the following code to get the password)  RSISSOCS
STEP 2: Double click on the Padlet wall to start a new secret pad of knowledge.
STEP 3: Type in a Title (2 uses for scissors)
STEP 4: Type in your information (list your uses)

STEP 5: When you are finished move your pad of information around to any part of the wall.

NOTE: You must make sure that the information you include in your secret padlet is not the same as someone else.

BEFORE YOU MOVE TO YOUR NEXT LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE:
Picture
Before you attempt your next level of knowledge it is important that you are prepared to do so.

Just as special agent Jack Youngblood said "Good luck is a residue of preparation” and so you want to make sure before you move to your next level of training you can answer the following questions:
1. What simple machines make up scissors?
2. What are some common uses of scissors?

HIDDEN LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE:
In order to gain access to each level of knowledge in this mission you must first gain access to the hidden mission page links. To do that you must click on the link below:
