Colourful Map (20 Points)
Create a colorful map of Egypt and the surrounding areas. You can draw the map or you can make it three dimensions using salt dough or other material. See the salt dough recipe at the bottom of this page. Get 11" x 17" paper from your teacher if you are drawing the map do not use binder paper-sized paper. Make sure that you include the required location listed below as well as 5 additional places that you choose through research.

On a separate piece of paper you need to include each location shown on your map and the significance of the place or how it relates to Egypt.
Example of what to write on the paper: "Location, Nile River Significance, The Nile was the transportation, irrigation and source of food for the Egyptians."

Flour Clay/Salt Dough Recipe:
This clay DOES NOT require cooking. The clay can be baked or air-dried. Your projects should last for several years. You can also paint and/or seal your projects after drying.
Materials:
2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup warm water
1 cup salt

- Mediterranean Sea
- Red Sea
- Sahara Desert
- Thebes
- Giza
- Memphis
- Phoenicia
- Mesopotamia
- Cataracts
- You must include 5 additional locations of your choice: a couple of examples. Valley of the Kings, Pyramid Complex at Giza, the great temple of Ramses.
Flour Clay/Salt Dough Recipe:
This clay DOES NOT require cooking. The clay can be baked or air-dried. Your projects should last for several years. You can also paint and/or seal your projects after drying.
Materials:
2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup warm water
1 cup salt
Directions for making the maps:
- Mix the flour, water, and salt.
- Form the clay into the shape of the region on the cardboard where the continent or state has been outlined. Next add mountains, rivers, bays, lakes, seashores and other landmarks where they belong.
- Air-dry for several days. For other projects, shapes made can be baked on a cookie sheet at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for one hour to dry more quickly.
- When your map is dry, use markers, poster paint, or watercolor or toothpicks with flags to indicate the location of deserts, plains, rivers, and so on.
- Refrigerate any unused clay in an airtight container to use another time.
