Knitting

Dear Families of Division 4,

I am thrilled to inform you that our class is going to be learning how to knit!

This is an exciting opportunity that will enable the students to acquire a new skill. This experience connects well with multiple grade 5 core and curricular competencies providing cross curricular connections while providing students with a first-hand understanding of how to build community while learning and developing compassion.

The goal of this project is to provide students a firsthand experience of the challenges of learning and developing a new skill.  Each student will be asked to knit a square.  All of the squares will then be connected, creating a blanket.  The students will then present their class blanket as a gift during a walking field trip to an Eastside community.

If you are interested in volunteering to help teach knitting to the students of Division 4, it would be greatly appreciated.   Please email me at dearland@sd44.ca.  We will be knitting on Monday afternoons (2:30-3:00) and Friday’s from 1:30 to 3:00.  I am hoping to start knitting on Friday, November 25th.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate in emailing.

Thank you,

Mr. Earland
